Prassonissi Beach

This spectacular beach, which is just a short drive from Villa Artemis, is quite simply a surfer’s paradise. Two seas meet either side of an isthmus, a broad strip of sand that connects the tip of the island to a rocky islet. The windy Aegean Sea, on one side, is ideal for experienced and professional watersports enthusiasts to come and train. The calmer Lybian Sea on the other side is more suitable for beginners. The views are astonishing, especially in the Summer when the Meltemi winds blow and both sides of the beach are filled with kites and sails.

Here are some shots of people having fun at Prassonissi!

The sands are flat and smooth and cars and jeeps regularly roll over the sands carrying surfboards and other sailing gear. There are surf training centres with boards, wetsuits and all sorts of equipment for hire.

There are plenty of tavernas here too, so you don’t need to be a dedicated surf enthusiast to enjoy a stroll along the water’s edge to the lighthouse and take in the breathtaking views and the general buzz of the place.

Directions to Prassonissi

Travelling by car

From the villa go down the white road to the end and turn right, or south bound on to the main island highway towards Kattavia for about 20km.

The beach is well signposted on a left turn near Kattavia, just follow the minor road directly to the beach, which is a few kilometres further down the track. There is ample parking on the firm sand at the start of the beach.
