For nature lovers there’s a lot to see around Villa Artemis. An abundance of birds, butterflies, bats, reptiles, herds of passing goats and much more. If you’re careful you could even catch a glimpse of the island’s native deer passing near by. We’ve spent hours staring in awe at flocks of passing bee eaters swooping by, buzzards soaring high overhead and small lizards scurrying about the garden.
The most regular visitors to the garden are the swallows that dive over the pool in search of a drink while catching insects on the wing. Later on, after dark the swallows are replaced by tiny bats doing the same thing. There are many types of beautiful butterflies and some impressive hawk moths. We’ve even watched a kestrel hunting from the electricity post out front and there are always larks sitting on the fence or hopping around the gravel.
